Back in the day there was no internet. The only way to catch up on the latest WDW news was to go to EPCOT Outreach and collect the free handouts. I saved 'em not even realizing how cool they'd be 30 years later.
Dear Volcano Bay,
Let's not forget that Typhoon Lagoon is still a better water park.
Love,
Hoot Gibson
This was a great "hidden secret" of EPCOT. Before the World Wide Web and internet, I was on the GEnie service (GE's version of CompuServe). We had a Destination Florida RoundTable (message board) with some Disney topics. Two of the members worked at the Outreach center and that's how I found out about it.
ReplyDeleteThis was the first place I ever heard of the image of Mickey being hidden in things in the park. Some day, I hope to find that hidden Mickey listing they had available.
Also, if you asked the right questions, they had a box of goodies and could show you something. If you knew what to ask. I asked about the fiber optic sidewalks and they produced a bundle of cables and the color wheel, and demonstrated it over a light to show how it worked. How I wish I had a camera back then, but I didn't start taking digital photos until '96.
Ideas were also floated for Tycoon Lagoon, but nobody would have been able to afford the admission price. Also, it's not safe to wear a monocle on a water slide.
ReplyDeleteI want to go to a Mammoth themed water entertainment area.
ReplyDeleteHey Hoot... do you have a scan of their Hidden Mickey’s list?ive given up trying to find mine.
