Back to The River of Time Part 1

All three of you who were following the now defunct "River of Time" blog may now enjoy the story here, at F77! If you have no idea what I'm talking about I'll fill you in.

Back in '99 Chief and I were worried when we heard rumors of a Donald Duck makeover for El "Rio Del Tiempo" at EPCOT Center's Mexico Pavilion. We decided that we should find our way into this beloved attraction and document as much as we could. Just like we did with Horizons.

We knew from riding the ride a billion times that there was some sort of magic in this place. When your boat made the turn through the mist and into the time tunnel, you were greeted, with open arms, by The Plumed Serpent Quetzalcoatl. You felt welcomed "to his Mexico of ancient times". The ride then turns happy.

Be it animatronic or not, It was still a representation of a deity just like a statue of Buddha or Jesus and the Serpent deserved respect. The problem for Chief and I was the fact that we'd be sneaking into his attraction without his greeting. We felt that if we did it anyway our stupid asses would get pinched for sure.

We deiced to consult the lovely Sunnycide Gibson who, as you may remember, dabbled in the dark arts and shit. Not only did she school us on what kind of offering to leave Quetzalcoatl, she made me a pouch full of goodies to wear around my neck. It was an INVISIBILITY POUCH! Pure genius! It would make Chief and I invisible while conducting our research. It worked!

Here's the pouch as it is today. I dare not open it.

Upon entering the show building we made our way straight to Quetzalcoatl. We laid at his feet an offering of hard corn, crystals, salt, a small gold nugget (no kidding) and a piece of polished "Tiger Eye" stone. We then asked for his permission to document his attraction.

Stay tuned for more!

  5. What happened to the Carosel of Mexican life size Marionettes? Is that Carosel locked up somewhere at Epcot? Are there any photos of that Carosel prior to its removal for the Donald Duck reinventing of the ride?

  6. Have any good photos of this Mayan from directly in front?
